The JUST PEPP project aims to investigate how Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) can be designed with and by citizens in vulnerable communities and implement energy-efficient building refurbishments, renewable energy, and low-carbon transport solutions in four pilot neighborhoods in Sweden, Norway, the Netherlands.
The project will:
- collaborate and engage key stakeholders and vulnerable communities to assess the societal and socio-economic impact of PEDs.
- produce new knowledge and methodologies to measure the societal impact of energy related vulnerabilities on citizen well-being and analyse the socio-economic benefits of Positive Energy Districts (PEDs) in neighbourhoods of vulnerable communities in a data driven approach.
- integrate social, environmental, and economic sustainability to develop strategic transformation roadmaps for urban areas, focusing on energy demand reduction, renewable energy generation, and smart energy storage.
- co-create and implement PED solutions tailored to the specific needs of vulnerable communities, fostering a sense of ownership and commitment.
- create economic opportunities for local businesses by developing and implementing new business models for low-carbon mobility solutions.
- tackle the pressing challenge of energy poverty and related vulnerabilities such as transport poverty by identifying and implementing innovative PED technologies and services that promote energy efficiency and low-carbon mobility in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
- develop an accessible, interactive digital toolbox with the knowledge needed for local governments to implement energy-positive solutions that enhance social inclusiveness, equity, and environmental progression for future climate-neutral cities.
